The last week has been extremely rainy and dark, this of course means awful conditions for photography, not to waste my holidays I decided to take a trip down to a local pond (also source of the river Hogsmill) in the grounds to Bourne Hall. There wasn't a large variety of birds to photograph however I made the best of what conditions I had. Fortunately for me I discovered new things that may make me come back, firstly the squirrels are extremely tame and can come very close for photos and there are beautiful swans and geese. Lastly there was a part that had once been overgrown, now cut back to allow a covered view onto the smaller pond where the heron can often be seen. Although it wasn't there today it may provide an essential spot for future visits, the ponds also house large fish (not an expert on names) that I found interesting. A trip to the Bourne Hall library made me come home with several good knowledgeable books and the free museum helped me in research into my filming project.
Recently the last few days up until Christmas day have been very wet indeed, the local park is waterlogged and photo opportunities are almost nil, however one bird has been visiting my garden and the green in front allowing some photos. I noticed also that the woodpecker although is single in the garden is in a pair when out in front. However the green woodpecker has been looking very wet indeed although its amazing colours still stand out. For a selection of images please click read more if you are not already on the post page.
Today marked the start of filming for my new documentary series called the 'story of nonsuch' in my local park. Although today's filming will only represent a small part of the Winter documentary it is the start of an exciting project to come. I'll be exploring the deep history of the park as well as meeting many of the organisations working within it, I will also include several parts to do with the rich wildlife and the Winter production will contain the story of the Great British Parakeet and how the population in the park is thriving. You'll also get to meet some of the Winter arrivals into the park as we try our luck at finding an illusive bird. Today's filming highlighted a charity event in the park, it was the annual Santa run raising money for the St Raphael's Hospice. There was a large turnout and with only one camera it meant I had to run most of the way with the 'Santas' in order to get the footage needed.
