On the 27th of April 2013, Sutton held its very first biodiversity fair. It was held at Wallington Boys School and consisted of around ten stalls and a variety of wildlife related talks throughout the afternoon. I found it very interesting and the links below show the speakers organisations and the order in which they appeared. It wasn't as busy as I expected but I'm sure as the publicity grows over the years it will get larger, a few interesting points I took away were about wildlife surveying, the movement of hedgehogs and the importance of recording the species you see - even if they are really common!

Hedgehogs in your Garden - Henry Johnson... PTES

As you came in through the door you were handed a 'doggy' bag from the event organizers, inside it included several really interesting information leaflets, a pack of biodiversity seeds and a pen. During the event I picked up a lot more leaflets, a OPAL biodiversity survey and I also was rewarded with the other 11 participants of a wildlife photography competition a surrey wildlife pack, more seeds, a bag and a bird feeder. I've added some photos below of a few of the things I received on the day.
Part of the day consisted of the prizes of a wildlife competition... I managed to win that competition and the main two prizes I won were a complete feeding station kit and a hedgehog house. Both are already in use in my garden and find the links below for the reviews I did of both of them. I would like to say thank you to the Sutton Biodiversity team who organised the event and I hope everyone had an enjoyable time if they came. I personally found the talks very interesting and learnt a lot more about nature I hadn't previously known. Hedgehog House Compete Bird Feeding Station |
